Seasoned advisor brings experience in data protection, emerging technologies, and global regulatory strategy
Washington, DC – February 11, 2025
Today, Crowell Global Advisors announced that Justin B. Weiss, a global leader in privacy, regulatory compliance, and digital innovation, has joined the firm as senior director. With over two decades of experience advising multinational corporations in M&A and investment strategies and navigating complex global regulatory landscapes, Weiss’ addition marks a significant expansion of CGA’s ability to guide clients through the rapidly evolving digital economy.
Weiss’ career spans leadership roles in the corporate, legal, and international policy arenas, including serving as the legal architect behind some of the world’s most transformative data privacy policies. He has helped corporate boards and executive teams develop and execute governance policies and determine market investment risks and strategies. His broad experience ranging from AI and cybersecurity policies to global digital legislation along with intellectual property protection and cross-border data privacy compliance will be instrumental in helping CGA clients tackle the most pressing challenges and seize opportunities presented by emerging technologies and digital transformation.
“Justin’s expertise is a game-changer for our clients,” said Geralyn Ritter, president and CEO of CGA. “His deep understanding of global regulatory frameworks, coupled with his practical, business-oriented approach to digital innovation, will help our clients stay ahead of changing geopolitical risks in a world where data drives decision-making. We couldn’t be more excited to have him on board.”
Prior to joining CGA, Weiss served as the head of the Digital & Regulatory legal team at global technology investor Naspers. In this role, he directed legal strategies and governance across a diverse technology portfolio, advising on artificial intelligence, data governance, consumer protection, and M&A. His work spanned industries such as edtech, fintech, e-commerce, and gaming, providing clients with practical, scalable approaches to navigating global regulations. While at Naspers, Weiss also served as associate general counsel of Dutch subsidiary Prosus,
Earlier in his career, Weiss held senior legal roles at Yahoo! Inc., where he was instrumental in shaping international privacy standards, including the development of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and advising the Network Advertising Initiative, where he worked to establish and enforce self-regulatory privacy standards for the online and email based targeted advertising industry. He has represented industry leaders before key bodies such as the European Union, U.S. Federal Trade Commission, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
“I am passionate about helping businesses turn cross-border digital challenges into opportunities,” said Weiss. “At a time when the regulatory landscape is shifting rapidly and technology is advancing at an unprecedented pace, global companies face both immense complexity and exciting potential. By leveraging my experience at the intersection of policy, technology, and business strategy, I look forward to working with CGA’s exceptional team to deliver strategic insights and actionable solutions that not only help our clients adapt but position them to lead in their respective industries.”
Weiss is based in Washington, D.C. and will play a key role advising CGA clients on the intersection of geopolitical and digital risks and taking advantage of the opportunities presented by emerging technologies and global market expansion. He concurrently serves as senior counsel in Crowell & Moring’s Privacy and Cybersecurity Group.
CGA has built significant momentum in the last year with strategic hires that diversify the company’s capabilities across global health, international trade, and digital policy, beginning with welcoming Geralyn Ritter as president and CEO in early 2024 and its recent addition of former senior White House official Monica Gorman. Weiss brings deep experience in digital innovation and regulatory strategy, reinforcing CGA’s commitment to delivering tailored support that empowers clients to adapt, innovate, and thrive in today’s rapidly evolving global environment.
